Situated around 30kms from the heart of Queenstown the valley offers a fantastic viticultural experience. It's not just about wine, some of New Zealands finest cheeses are made here and await you to come and sample them.Although the area gained fame for sauvignon blanc varietys and a multi-award winning pinot noir in the '80s the valley is not new to grape growing. A frenchman John Feraud, drawn by the gold rush
in the 1860's started growing his own grapes, but being unsuccessful in gold mining left the area and the grape growing industry temporarily died. This has now changed with at least seventy vineyards in the area, ten being open to the public. To experience this wonderful region of Queenstown get yourself a "Central Otago Wine Map", a designated driver and a quality rental vehicle from Rendatent rental cars.
